The Sixth Capital Economic Forum Was Held Smoothly

On November 9, 2022, the sixth Capital Business Forum hosted by J.F. Oberlin University in Japan was successfully held. As a founding member of the Capital Economic Forum, BNUBS participated in the forum as a Chinese representative. More than 20 guests and 280 teachers and students from 7 capitals including Beijing, Tokyo, Washington, Seoul, Madrid and Canberra attended the event. The conference will be held in the main venue in Tokyo, with sub-venues in Beijing and Washington, and will be conducted through a combination of online and offline methods.

Cai Hongbo, Associate Dean of BNUBS, was invited to preside over the opening ceremony of the forum.  

 

Hiroaki Hatayama, President of J.F. Oberlin University, delivered the first speech. He said that J.F. Oberlin University has a long history of exchanges and cooperation with Beijing Normal University, and BNUBS has set up an overseas teaching and research base on the J.F. Oberlin campus. J.F. Oberlin University is honored to host the 6th Capital Economic Forum this year. As the world is undergoing complex and drastic changes, it is timely and necessary for scholars in the capital to discuss the economic transformation and the development of enterprises in the digital era. The University is committed to working with other universities in the world to promote the development of economic globalization. President Hatayama finally wished the Capital Economic Forum a complete success.

Then, Mr. Qi Yudong, Dean of BNUBS, delivered a speech. He pointed out that the Capital Economic Forum has been successfully held for five years, and the participation of J.F. Oberlin University in this year's forum further expands the platform of the Capital Economic Forum, and welcomes scholars from Japan to contribute their experience and wisdom to the forum. General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed in the Party's 20 National Congress report that we should build an open world economy, and the Capital Economic Forum has well practiced the policy. This year also coincides with the 120th anniversary of Beijing Normal University. The high-level international cooperation platform will add stronger impetus to the development of BNUBS. Finally, he extended warm congratulations on the opening of the forum and thanked the University for hosting the forum.

The first keynote speech was presided over by Jiang Jie, Associate Secretary of the Party Committee of BNUBS. Masao Nishikawa’s speech titled "Implication of Long Low-growth Period with Massive Policy Supports in Japan for Post Covid-19 Era", is based on his more than 30 years of working experience in the Cabinet Office of Japan and academic research.  He pointed out that in the face of long-term low economic growth after the epidemic, the government should maintain policy support and flexibility to help the society recover vitality. Professor Erran Carmel wrote the letter "Pandemic Megasystems: "A New Framing and Lessons from Failures" summarizes the solutions and practices of more than 90 countries in the world in the face of COVID-19, summarizes the experience and lessons, and proposes a new framework for global epidemic prevention. With the title "Increase the Non-contact Elements, Develop Beijing's Digital Economy", Professor Wang Dashu combined with Beijing's epidemic prevention practices and suggested promoting the expansion of non-contact elements in the capital's economy. Using the digital economy to mitigate and respond to the impact of the pandemic. Associate Professor Gong Shiyang delivered a lecture titled "Powering Consuming Insights in a Digital World", sharing research findings and views on how to promote the transformation of consumption concepts in the era of digital economy.

The first session of the afternoon was presided over by Sakai Mutsumi, Dean of the Graduate School of J.F. Oberlin University.  Professor Hwy-Chang Moon and Dr. YIN Wenyan focused on "Changing Patterns of Core Competence in the Digital Era: A case of Tesla Inc., "explores how latecomers in industries with high barriers to entry can win over incumbents. Professor KimioKase's talk was titled Can the Analogical Learning Process be Digitally Handled? Through case studies, he discusses how to use digital technology to learn by analogy. Prof. Tsuneo Sakamoto named "The Benefits and Limitations of Sustainable Finance" and put forward the positive effects and limitations of financial sustainable development. Associate Professor Qian Jing's speech topic is "How could Digital Transformation Make Cities Better?" She vividly illustrates how digital technology has profoundly changed modern life and how it has made people's lives easier and more convenient.

The second stage of the speech in the afternoon was hosted by Associate Professor Hu Conghui from BNUBS. Professor Lin CUI focuses on "Employee Ownership and Firm Digital Transformation: Evidence from China ", analyzes that the increase in the proportion of employee ownership in Chinese enterprises leads to a higher degree of digitalization of enterprises, and gives corresponding policy suggestions. Associate Professor Brett Gilbert will speak on "Firm Heterogeneity and Inequality: Based on A Regional Perspective, she analyzed the different degrees of compensation and employment strategies adopted by enterprises, which affected the degree of heterogeneity and inequality. Associate Professor Guo Ji titled "Digital Museum of the Economics and Social History of China" introduces the students can have video and rich electronic resources access to huge amounts of knowledge. The construction of digital museum is of great significance to the improvement of teaching and social progress.

Finally, Associate Professor Hu Conghui from BNUBS made a summary of the forum. He thanked all the speakers for their wonderful speeches. He pointed out that in the context of today's times, under the theme of "Economic Transformation and Enterprise Development in the Digital Age", we have had in-depth discussions and shared discussions on economy, society, culture, science and technology, education and other aspects, which are of great practical and social significance. Undoubtedly, it will play a positive role in promoting the development of digital economy enabling enterprises and society.

 

So far, the Sixth Capital Economic Forum has come to a successful end.
