On November 25, 2021, the school established the teaching and research team of “Two Histories: Politics and Economy” (Political Economy, Economic History, and Economic Thought History)" and held the first seminar. There are 8 members in the teaching and research team now, including: Li You, Qi Yudong, Yang Chengyu, Di Chengfeng, Cao Siwei, Liu Pan, Zhu Mengbing and Wen Qiao. Professor Li You is the head of the team. Dean Qi Yudong, Party Secretary Sun Zhijun, Associate Dean Cai Hongbo, Direcror Yang Juan of Economics Department, Associate Director Xu Minbo of Economics Department and team members attended the meeting, and Associate Dean Professor Zhang Pingan presided over the meeting.      

BNUBS has set up a teaching and research team for Political Economy, Economic History, and Economic Thought History

Professor Li You, Head of the teaching and research team, pointed out that Political Economy, Economic History, and Economic Thought History have a long history in our school. In 1953, the Political Economy Teaching and Research Room was set up in the Department of Politics and Education.  In 1979, the Department of Political Economy was established.  In 1981, it was authorized to confer master's degree in political economy, and in 2000, it was authorized to confer doctor's degree in political economy. In 2001, it set up post-doctoral research station in Theoretical Economics, and in 2002, it was authorized to confer first-level discipline of Theoretical Economics. After decades of development, this discipline has become a discipline with academic characteristics and advantages in China. On the overall level, it is in the forefront in China and we are at the leading point in the value price theory, income distribution, China's economic reform and China's market economy, respectively. Professor Li You also pointed out that future research on the relevant field requires new methods and paradigms, and he hoped that the young and middle-aged teachers in the team could make breakthroughs in related fields. Professor Cai Hongbo, Associate Dean, introduced the development of the disciplines in major universities in China. Referring to the ranking of Theoretical Economics in the fourth round of discipline evaluation, he compared the teaching and research of in this field in various universities in detail. Professor Qi Yudong, Dean of the School, and Professor Sun Zhijun, Party secretary of the School, put forward relevant suggestions on the importance of the disciplines and how to combine the current resources of the School  to carry out teaching, research and discipline construction. Professor Yang Juan, Director of Economics Department, discussed how to deepen the teaching reform of the disciplines.      

We hope that the we can build the teaching and research team into a first-class discipline team in the forefront of the country as a whole through the efforts of the next few years and we can consolidate and improve the academic status in China, build a leading domestic and internationally influential research and teaching base, strive to become national key disciplines, and eventually strive to construct a Theoretical Economics school with unique methodology, theoretical content and disciplinary system.
