On the evening of October 29th, 2020, Hu Quan, President and Chief Economist of the Industry 4.0 Research Institute, was invited as the guest speaker of the “Cutting-edge Digital Economy and Management” lecture series. Mr. Hu Quan expressed his views and opinions on the topic "Digital Twin Manufacturing Model and Its Application". Li Jing, Deputy Director of MBA Center, BNUBS, presided over the lecture. More than 100 teachers and students listened to the lecture on the site and online, and their questions were enthusiastically responded.

Hu Quan, President and Chief Economist of the Industry 4.0 Research Institute, President of the Digital Twins Alliance, Leader of Digital Twin Working Group on New Infrastructure of Digital Economy of National Development and Reform Commission, Expert of Industrial Sector Evaluation Expert Group, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Chairman of CPHS2020 Digital Twin Industry Application Forum. He focuses on general-purpose technologies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Digital Twins, 5G, the Internet of Things, Blockchain and other next-generation digital technologies. At present, his research focus is Digital Twin Innovation Ecology. He published the famous book: Digital Twins: Universal Purpose Technologies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

——Speaker’s Opinion——

At the beginning, Mr. Hu Quan first pointed out that the industrial Revolution had brought about changes in productivity and production relations. After the fourth Industrial Revolution, all aspects of economic management and social structure began to change. According to the 2015 research results of the Industry 4.0 Research Institute, 2020 was the first year of the industrial revolution, which would last at least 50 years and bring economic growth to a new level.

Hu Quan pointed out that the fourth Industrial Revolution driven by GPT determined that "General-purpose Technologies" would be the engine of economic growth. General purpose technology was a generic technology, which could be identified in the whole life cycle, had broad development in the initial stage, and would be widely used eventually, with a variety of application scenarios, and had spillover effects. Its development process has the characteristics of "From Point to Surface", starting from solving specific problems of enterprises, gradually forming industry standards, and finally being applied in more industries.

And industrial twinning had two values: one was to reduce costs, the other was to achieve collaboration. The former was the fundamental reason for its adoption in manufacturing enterprises, which was mainly used in the field of operation and maintenance at present. The traditional highly integrated manufacturing mode was decoupled and divided into digital twinization and digital twinization application to promote the formation of the continuous improvement mode of digital twinization.

At last, Mr. Hu Quan pointed out that digital twinization manufacturing itself had great potential, which can extend from highly complex manufacturing to general manufacturing field, and can be effective in dimension reduction.
