China Micro-simulation Seminar Was Successfully Held

    On March 14, 2018, the China Micro-simulation Seminar, jointly organized by the China Institute of Income Distribution and the Policy Simulation Center, was successfully held in BNU. The participants included: Professor Gijs Dekkers, Chairman of the International Micro-simulation Association, Li Shantong, Researcher of the Development Research Center of the State Council, Professor Shi Li, Executive Director of the China Income Distribution Research Institute, Chen Jun, Director of Income and Distribution Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, Wang Guocheng and Zhang Yanqun, researchers of Institute of Quantitative and Technical Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Xiong Linping, Second Military Medical University, Professor Zhang Shiwei, Dean of Business School of Jilin University, Zhang Yiming, Director of Policy Simulation Laboratory of Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and Wang Xinmei, associate researcher of Institute of Population and Labor, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and etc.

    Experts and scholars in the field of micro-simulation at home and abroad gathered in BNU and respectively delivered keynote speeches on the status quo and future development of micro-simulation research in China. At the beginning of the conference, Professor Li Shi, the Executive Dean of BNUBS delivered an opening speech and expressed welcome and gratitude to Gijs Dekkers, Chairman of the International Micro-simulation Association (IMA). At the same time, he hoped that more experts and scholars could cooperate with the Policy Simulation Center of BNUBS to promote the sustainable development in this area. Li Shantong, a researcher at the Development Research Center of the State Council, introduced the development of micro-simulation research in China. Gijs Dekkers pointed out in his speech that China was a large market with many excellent researchers. More Chinese researchers joining the micro-simulation study would add great significance to the development of this field. Chen Jun, Director of the income distribution division of the Employment and Income Distribution Division of the National Development and Reform Commission, also expected that China’s micro-simulation research would provide more support to government decisions. Professor Li Shi, Executive Director of BNUBS issued an appointment letter to Gijs Dekkers to formally appoint him as honorary researcher of the Policy Simulation Center of BNU. Other participants also delivered speeches focusing on the micro-simulation theory and practice in China.

    In the end, IMA Chairman Gijs Dekkers commented on the speeches of experts and scholars, affirmed the outstanding progress of micro-simulation research in China, and put forward some suggestions and ideas for the future micro-simulation research. Professor Li Shantong made a closing speech in which he hoped that this meeting would gather domestic relevant research and promote the development of micro-simulation research in China.
