In the afternoon of May 12^th, 2017, the workshop on key policy considerations for BRICS trade and investment cooperation in 2017 which was successfully held in Beijing was hosted by BNU and ICTSD of WTO, organized by BNUBS and BRICS Universities League. Mr. Wang Shouwen, vice-minister of MOFCOM, was invited to the experts exchange workshop and delivered a keynote speech on BRICS trade and investment cooperation. Mr. Zhou Zuoyu, vice-principal of BNU and Mr. Ricardo Melendez-Ortiz attended the workshop and made remarks. Ms. Liang Hong, deputy director of the department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of MOFCOM, together with scholars and experts from BRICS countries and international organizations attended the workshop. Mr. Lai Desheng, Dean of BNUBS, chaired the workshop.

 

The workshop was held with the objective of studying the effective methods of promoting BRICS trade and investment cooperation, facilitating the integration of BRICS markets, and constructing an open, inclusive and cooperative global economic and political structure. The three main sessions of the workshop include: session one, analyzing mainly the construction methods of the BRICS grand market integration; session two, keynote speech from Mr. Wang Shouwen; session three, discussing the opportunities and challenges of BRICS trade and investment cooperation under the new global economic and political situation. Multiple scholars addressed important speeches around the above topics.

By the end of the workshop, after heated discussions from all the attendants, Mr. Wang Lei, director of BRICS Universities League of BNU and Mr. Ricardo, CEO of ICTSD concluded the workshop with excellent remarks. The workshop is a feast of academic exchange which experts gather and viewpoints collide.
